WasteWater Treatment

1. From your home, it travels into the preliminary treatment part of the wastewater treatment plant and goes through a bar screen to filter out different objects like rocks and garbage.

2. Now it is sent slowly in the grit tank where sand, gravel and other heavy objects settle to the bottom. Next it is held in the primary settling tank for several hours to settle solid particles to the bottom and particles lighter than water float to the top, now it goes out to the secondary treatment.

3. Here it will go through a biological treatment that will remove all organic matter from the water and oxygen is added to speed this up. Coagulant is added to stick together remaining particles and is to be caught by the clarifier tank. Chlorine is the kill harmful organisms and it is released in the Lake Ontario or where your water treatment plant want to.

4. The solids from the primary settling tank and clarifier are made into electricity, fertilizer or put into landfills.
